Childbirth singing

Course in Hamburg on June 12th 2008. Ask more from Hilkka-Liisa!

Women can use their own voice as a relaxant during the labour! I am teaching women how to use their own voice as a relaxant during the childbirth, but also already during the pregnancy.  Especially I use “soundtouching” together with hands.  Sound is also communicating with one's own soul and the baby. It is about accepting oneself with a tender voice.  All exercises are very tender, it is a meditation on the beginning of life, the core of a woman. However, during the birth, woman's voice grows in strength and power as the contractions grow stronger. But the use of voice is controlled. Midwives say that soundmothers are very centered and focused on what they are doing. The technique I teach is simple. Some women say that they did with me only one hour presentation practices, and after that they used their own voice in birth. And these women are not singers. The knowledge is already right in them. I just wake it up. Also many men are using their voice in the labour to help the woman to relax! Voice is always there - many men find it reliefing to sing - they can do something useful, not only hold the hand.  Man's voice is one octave lower thatn woman's voice - it naturally helps woman to concentrate on their hips and the lower parts of their body.  I have written a book about Childbirth singing, but unfortunately it is only in Finnish. Maybe you who read this will help to pass the knowledge... I find the book very spiritual, but also I have wanted to write it to be scientifically accepted. The other author has been a critical music therapist, who has all the time commented on my writing. The publisher in Finland is Edita, which publishes schoolbooks and scientific books. The book is accepted by midwives - I teach on regular bases in the local hospital in Helsinki.  I have myself given "sound birth" to two of my children.

Already I have been asked for the translation from Australia, The States, Spain, England and Italy. Not publishers, just normal women, who have somehow heard about the book from somebody. In Germany, I have given once a lecture in local hospital near Hamburg some three years ago - and one midwife is now teaching it there. How I wish I could pass these skills more to women. Time is a valuable matter.

with the most tender birth sounds,

Hilkka-Liisa

P.S. See for the introduction of my book in "CD's and books"
